LED or LCD? What is the best size for the led screen in the retail sector? Pixel Pitch… what is that? Indoor or outdoor LED display? How bright does my LED screen need? ... Through this post, we try to solve the doubts that arise when implementing LED solutions for your projects.

First:

What is an LED screen?

This problem may seem trivial, but you need to define the LED display as a medium, where each pixel is made up of three LEDs, and each LED corresponds to a color (RGB), which together can display the full range of colors (16,6 million). Therefore we clearly differentiate that LED is the same LCD.

What are the advantages of LED displays?

Its customizable and scalable size, high brightness and multiple technological applications. Including flexible screens and transparent curtains for facades ...

What is the best size for my LED project?

Sometimes space limitations do not leave many options, but from experience we can say that the most impressive projects are those that use the largest available surface. The advantage of the LED screen is that it is composed of modules or Cabinets (the smallest unit). For example, in a solution with 25x25cm cabinets: from a module you can "create" your LED screen: horizontal, vertical, with corners, curvature, irregular shapes, integrated into furniture ... The customer sets the limit.

Now, the size of the screen is not the only factor to consider, they must always be associated with a good quality of reproduction, which is the definition of Pixel Pitch or distance between pixels, since it will give us the resolution of the screen. Currently, technology allows the manufacture of screens with a 0,7mm Pixel Pitch, but only for very special applications.

What must be evaluated in the distance in which the LED screen is seen, and based on this we choose one or another technology. A simple rule of thumb for creating patterns is to equalize the distance between the pixels and the observer. That is, if the target audience is 4 meters away, the Pixel Pitch resolution can be 4mm, although there will always be some subtle differences.

The originality of the product is reflected in its ability to adapt to the environment. The screen's IP protection level allows us to use this technology outdoors and be able to resist adverse atmospheric elements.

And finally, an important aspect is the brightness. It is usually measured in Nits, allows us to determine the maximum intensity of light emitted by the screen, and can be self-calibrating as needed.

If the screen is located in an indoor environment and the ambient light is not very high, can reach 1500nits; But when the screen is outdoors or in bright sunlight, the brightness can reach 10.000nits. It should be noted that conventional LCD televisions usually provide a maximum brightness of 400 to 600 nits.

To conclude, we can come to the conclusion that LED screens have many combination possibilities and if you have an LED project for your company, do not hesitate to contact LED LEMON and we will advise you without obligation on your LED digital projects.
